One of Five public service announcements for Disney. This was a screwy curve ball!
I was responsible for Art Direction and Special Effects supervision, as well as overseeing all animation. The challenge in these was reappropriating characters from previously produced cartoons. It was a reverse engineering project to get all the parts to work right. Since this had to be starting point, it created the rules for the compositions, perspectives and shooting angles. We eye matched compositions and camera angles that would work for the chartacters interactions with the talent as well as the new backgrounds and environments. The challenge within the cartoon characters themselves, after making selects of actions and expressions of the characters, we had to roto them out of their backgrounds (which Disney generously helped out) then draw new mouths to that would match the new VO. All of this, besides the added complexity of the client being on the west coast and us (Wee Beastie (Creative Company and me) being in NY, we had an 8 week turnaround for ALL 5!
